Elite: 49ers LB Dre Greenlaw to receive Dwight Clark Legacy Award in style…

Thisyear’s Dwight Clark Award winner is Dre Greenlaw, according to Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area. On Thursday, May 16, the 49ers linebacker from San Francisco will accept the esteemed award live at the fourth annual Dwight Clark Legacy Series in San Jose.

The Dwight Clark Legacy Award is given to a current 49ers player who best embodies the late receiver’s ethos of teamwork each year. Last year’s winner was linebacker Fred Warner. The 2022 recipient was defensive lineman Arik Armstead, who is currently with the Jacksonville Jaguars; the inaugural award was given to tight end George Kittle in 2021.

“Dre is more than deserving of the 2024 Dwight Clark Award,” Warner said of his teammate, per Maiocco. “The admiration Dwight’s teammates had for him is the same we have for Dre. The way he inspires people through his relentless play is recognized on and off the field.

“He’s been a brother to me since we drafted him in 2019. I’ve always said it, I wouldn’t be the player I am without Dre Greenlaw. He never asks for praise. He just shows up every day to play the game he loves.”

Greenlaw is recovering from the torn Achilles injury he sustained during the Super Bowl in February. He will likely provide an update on his recovery at the event.

General manager John Lynch gave an update on Greenlaw’s condition last month, saying, “Dre will let you know he’s going to return week one.” Dre is unbeatable, but we need to use caution. Perhaps something like a PUP (Physically Unable to Perform list).
