Jacob Trouba, who signed a seven-year, $56 million contract on July 19, 2019, has two years remaining on it. On July 1, Trouba created a 15-team no-trade list, which allows him to refuse deals with 15 NHL teams. The Rangers have requested access to this list. By asking for Trouba’s 15-team no-trade list it could mean the Rangers are looking to move their captain who is set to make $8 million in the 2024-25 NHL season. Last season, Trouba recorded 3 goals and 19 assists for 22 points in 69 games. He recorded 1 goal and 6 assists for 7 points in 16 playoff games.
Trouba was acquired by the Rangers on June 17, 2019, from the Winnipeg Jets. He was named captain on August 9, 2022. Trouba Added to Trade Board In The Athletic’s updated trade bait board on June 26 ahead of the NHL draft and free agency, Trouba was a new addition to it. The Athletic had Trouba as No. 14 on their list as the outlet believes Trouba is a luxury for New York which needs to clear cap space.
Trouba might be the odd man out because his no-movement clause is scheduled to turn into a 15-team no-trade clause on July 1st, and the Rangers are rumored to be considering dealing a defenseman. According to The Athletic’s trade board post, the right-shot defender is renowned for his powerful bodychecks that finish opponents cold. He plays a hard, physical style of defense.
“He’s coming off a challenging postseason, but most teams would consider him an upgrade.” Trouba might be a luxury at his cap hit in New York, where Braden Schneider and Adam Fox are also on the right side, the piece continued.
CapFriendly estimates that the Rangers have a little over $12 million in cap space going into the offseason. However, New York may move Trouba because they have Erik Gustafsson and Chad Ruhwedel as unrestricted free agents on the back end and Schneider and Ryan Lindren as potential RFAs on defense.

In the Stanley Cup playoffs, Trouba was playing through a broken ankle. Trouba talked to the media and stated he had a chunk missing from his ankle but played through the injury.
