Following a dismal season finale, the Chicago Bulls are attempting to determine their next course of action, and it sounds like significant changes could be forthcoming.
When speaking to the media on Saturday, Bulls vice president Arturas Karnisovas provided a rather critical statement regarding the team’s roster. Karnisovas declared categorically that the current group “hasn’t worked” in its current form.
The Bulls made an effort to center their strategy around the quintet of Nikola Vucevic, Zach LaVine, DeMar DeRozan, and Lonzo Ball. The team has only made it to the playoffs once in its current iteration, and that was in 2022, when they were eliminated early due to injuries sustained by Ball and LaVine.
The Bulls’ problem is that it’s unclear what significant adjustments they can make. While LaVine’s trade value was all but destroyed by a season-ending injury just as his market was beginning to take shape, Ball is hoping to recover from his chronic knee issues.
Given that DeRozan might be their most important asset right now, the organization might be forced to consider making a trade for him.
Though the Bulls did make the play-In tournament, they went just 39-43 during the regular season and would not have been viewed as a contender to do much of anything even if they had made it into the postseason. Things are going to have to change, but that is easier said than done.
