Just now: a minute ago! Seahawks makes shocking Geno Smith replacement With 59,000-Yard QB super bowl champion who has 58,847 passing yards, 372 touchdowns, and 187 interceptions under his belt..
Over the last three seasons, the Seattle Seahawks have been decent, if not outstanding, with Geno Smith starting at quarterback; nevertheless, it’s possible that they’ve already reached their limit with Smith in that role…
With a 6-5 record going into Week 13, Seattle is tied for first place in the NFC West Division; however, Smith’s propensity to turn the ball over has been an issue, as he leads the NFL in interceptions (12)
For the last two seasons, Smith, 34, has been a Pro Bowl player. Nevertheless, he has a $38.5 million salary cap cost in 2025, and the team has yet to win a postseason game with him starting at quarterback.
It wouldn’t be remarkable if the Seahawks, who have a wealth of talented players, choose to look for a small improvement that may propel them into a more serious Super Bowl contender in an NFC that is far behind the Detroit Lions (11-1).
That was the basis for Bleacher Report’s Brad Gagnon’s forecast on Wednesday, Nov. 27, that the Seahawks will select Matthew Stafford of the Los Angeles Rams in instead of Smith in the upcoming offseason.
“Geno Smith might not be the entire problem in Seattle, but he’s thrown as many interceptions as touchdown passes … and the Seahawks can save $25 million by moving on this offseason,” wrote Gagnon. “The [New York] Giants, [Las Vegas] Raiders and [Tennessee] Titans might take interest if the Rams part ways, but Stafford might prefer to join a more competitive Seattle team to wind down his career … and Seattle could see this as a great opportunity to upgrade with the window open.”
According to Pro Football Reference, Stafford has accumulated 58,847 passing yards, 372 touchdowns, and 187 interceptions during his professional career. He is a two-time Pro Bowler and a past Super Bowl champion (2021).
