Official LIVE: He signed it! Broncos has finally opened the long awaited gate” for the special man” Michael Maguire” Playing my part in the great vision of what the Broncos stand for is the exciting part for me” Maguire hint at his first goal…..

Michael Maguire has officially taken over as head coach of the Brisbane Broncos on a three-year deal, replacing Kevin Walters, who was unexpectedly sacked after the 2024 season. Walters’ dismissal followed a disappointing campaign that saw the Broncos plummet from grand finalists in 2023 to a 12th-place finish in 2024.

Maguire, known for his disciplined coaching style, has a strong track record, including leading the South Sydney Rabbitohs to an NRL Premiership in 2014. His appointment is seen as a bid to restore the Broncos’ former glory by instilling a more rigorous culture.

The decision to appoint Maguire follows an internal review of the club’s football department. Walters, blindsided by the findings of the review, reportedly expressed frustration over the criticisms of his leadership style and communication. The review highlighted issues with the consistency of team preparation, communication breakdowns, and leadership standards.

Maguire is expected to immediately focus on rebuilding team morale and improving the team’s performance, starting in the 2025 preseason. Broncos CEO Dave Donaghy and the club’s management see Maguire as the right person to instill a stronger work ethic and set clear expectations for players and staff.

Before joining the Broncos, Maguire held several high-profile coaching roles, including stints with the Wests Tigers and New Zealand’s national team. His experience coaching at both club and international levels is seen as vital for the Broncos, who are seeking stability and growth after a period of inconsistency. Maguire’s no-nonsense, methodical approach could bring a much-needed cultural shift to the organization.

Broncos fans and analysts alike are optimistic about Maguire’s appointment, believing that his strict and professional coaching style is exactly what the team needs to return to their winning ways. However, with high expectations and pressure from the Broncos’ leadership, Maguire will need to deliver results quickly to secure long-term success for the team.

Maguire first statement

The Broncos organisation has a high expectation on everything it does. It’s built a great history and shown the strength of what a club can be and what it can mean to fans. Playing my part in the great vision of what the Broncos stand for is the exciting part for me.”

Maguire submitted a presentation to the NSWRL board on Friday but did not mention the Broncos job. NSWRL chief executive Dave Trodden is overseas on a three-week holiday and will begin the process of finding a replacement for Maguire when he returns. Maguire wasn’t appointed until November 30 last year.
