To put it mildly, matters at the quarterback position have not been easy since the Las Vegas Raiders and Derek Carr fell out. After his success with the San Francisco 49ers, they gave Jimmy Garoppolo a shot, but he was fired after just eight games. Garoppolo led the league in picks, and the Raiders ended out with a 3-5 record. They also looked at journeyman Brian Hoyer before going with Aidan O’Connell.
They brought in Gardner Minshew, who has been in and out of the league, heading into 2024, and he is currently in charge. The consensus in the league is that they will choose a player in the draft, but because of their cap space, they were recently listed as a possible destination for Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott by Kristopher Knox of Bleacher Report.
“The Raiders could afford to offer Prescott a market-topping contract-Joe Burrow, Trevor Lawrence and Jordan Love each have deals worth $55 million annually,” Knox wrote.” They could also give Prescott an opportunity to play with talented pass-catchers like Davante Adams, Jakobi Meyers and Brock Bowers.” Although Prescott’s specific future with Dallas is unknown, the 2023 NFL touchdown pass leader did tell CBS that he believes they are working on it.
“I’d say they’re working,” Prescott said. “I don’t know if that’s necessarily the timeline. I can’t say, ‘I’ll put a timeline on [agent] Todd [France] and Stephen [Jones] if we don’t get this done, this or that.’ But I know they’re working.” For the Raiders, adding Prescott can put them into win-now mode and avoid having to take a chance on an unproven quarterback in next year’s NFL draft.
The “deadline” for Prescott appears to be before their Week 1 game on Sunday according to CBS, so only time will tell if this is a true possibility.
