After leaving Leicester City, Nottingham Forest and Ipswich Town are vying for Kelechi Iheanacho’s signature, sources have told Football Insider. The 27-year-old’s contract at the King Power expired last month, and both Premier League teams have expressed interest in signing him on a free transfer.

Although clubs in Greece and Turkey have already made bids to Iheanacho, Forest and Ipswich are hoping to persuade him to stay in England. In an attempt to win the race for the striker’s signature, the clubs are now prepared to present the player with formal contract proposals.

Nottingham Forest and Ipswich Town race to sign Kelechi Iheanacho

Iheanacho spent seven years at Leicester after joining from Manchester City in 2017, making 232 appearances and scoring 61 goals for the club.

Over the course of six seasons with the Foxes, he scored 30 goals in the Premier League.

The previous season, he failed to get consistent playing time in the Championship, starting just 12 games while averaging 42 minutes per game and scoring six goals. Forest and Ipswich are still eager to give him another chance at Premier League football despite his decline in performance.

Ipswich have now emerged as late contenders for his signature as they look to strengthen their attacking options upon their promotion to the Premier League.

Aston Villa was one of the other interested parties, but since Jhon Duran hasn’t finalized a move out, their interest has waned.
