OFFICIAL: Rob Thomson has finally welcome a genus key target Infielder who just pen a paper…

After a short tenure with the New York Yankees, their former infielder was claimed off waivers.

After a dismal season last year, the New York Yankees have been making big changes this summer in an effort to assemble a competitive roster.

Trading for Juan Soto and signing Marcus Stroman are two additions that should help.

While the main moves generate the headlines, the front office also searched for additional depth pieces.

The Yankees did that by claiming infielder Diego Castillo off waivers when he was designated for assignment by the New York Mets following their signing of starting pitcher Sean Manaea.

The 26-year-old played 96 games with the Pittsburgh Pirates in 2022, slashing .206/.251/.382 with 11 home runs and 29

RBI.

He was then shipped to the Arizona Diamondbacks, but only played one game for them after spending the majority of his time in Triple-A, before being designated for assignment

This started Castillo’s interesting offseason of being claimed and then subsequently placed on waivers.

That’s what happened with New York who claimed him from the Mets on Jan. 19 and then designated him for assignment 10 days later.

Now, the infielder has found his next home with the Philadelphia Phillies according to their own announcement. This fills their 40-man roster and if they make another move, then they would have to make another subsequent move to have room for the addition.

The Yankees will continue searching for other pieces before the new season begins.

There are still plenty of players out there they can pursue.

New York has been linked to multiple players still on the board and could still be active filling out their roster.
