Omari Hutchinson, an attacker for Chelsea, is said to have had a medical with Ipswich Town following their agreement to a £22.5 million deal. Hutchinson has drawn a lot of attention since he was instrumental in Ipswich’s Championship-winning promotion attempt the previous year.
During his loan stint at Portman Road, the 20-year-old made 44 league games, contributing six assists and 10 goals to help the Tractor Boys snap their 22-year wait for top-tier football. Ajax, Stuttgart, and Feyenoord have expressed interest in Hutchinson, therefore Kieran McKenna’s team has been negotiating a return to the club.
They have now reached a deal with Chelsea to recruit Hutchinson for a potential £22.5 million. This is according to BBC Sport.
Hutchinson undergoes Ipswich medical
Ipswich are set to pay £20m as an initial fee, plus a further £2.5 in add-ons and a sell-on clause for any future transfers.
As a result of the deal, Ipswich are set to break their transfer record which currently stands at the £4.75m they paid to sign goalkeeper Mattero Sereni from Sampdoria in £4.75m.

The Athletic is claiming that Hutchinson has had a medical exam in preparation for his impending return to Portman Road now that a deal has been reached. In the coming days, Hutchinson should be revealed as Ipswich’s first summer acquisition, assuming nothing shocking happens.
Why is Hutchinson being sold by Chelsea? The winger started his childhood career with Chelsea and later played for Charlton Athletic and Arsenal before making his way back to Stamford Bridge a few years ago.
Hutchinson was only able to make two first-team appearances; he made his debut against Manchester City in a Premier League match in January 2023 and then played against the same team in an FA Cup match a few days later.
Despite his impressive performance with Ipswich the previous season, he had competition from Cole Palmer, Noni Madueke, Raheem Sterling, Mykhaylo Mudryk, and Christopher Nkunku, therefore it was uncertain if he would be a regular starter at Chelsea.
Hutchinson isn’t considered a first-team regular, so Chelsea see this as a great chance to reach a deal that will enable them to abide by the Premier League’s profit and stability regulations.
Similar to his fellow academy graduate Ian Maatsen, who just finished a permanent move to Aston Villa, Hutchinson’s exit will be seen as pure profit.
