Otega Oweh, an Oklahoma transfer, is one player who the Kentucky Wildcats anticipates having a huge season. Oweh averaged 11.4 points, 3.8 rebounds, and one assist per game for the Sooners in the previous campaign. In addition, he hit 37.7% from three, a significant improvement over his freshman campaign.
It appears that Oweh will start this season for Mark Pope’s club as a backup for either Jaxson Robinson at the three or Koby Brea at the two position. Because of his versatility and ability to defend guards, get to the rim, shoot the ball, and assist on the boards, Oweh will be Kentucky’s most valuable player off the bench. Oweh can easily defend guards because he is a strong, 6’5 player.
Oweh’s ability to make free throws is his only weakness, but Coach Pope should be able to work on improving it in the winter. Oweh is going to be a very excellent player for Coach Pope, and it wouldn’t be shocking if he managed to break into the Wildcats’ starting lineup.
Coach Pope provided this statement regarding Oweh’s contributions, which Kentucky Athletics distributed. Pope stated, “Otega shot 37 percent from the 3-point line last year.” He has a unique physicality and passion to the game, and he excels at earning trips to the free-throw line. Last year, Otega played full court point guard for the entirety of his season in the Big 12. His humility off the court will help him win over Big Blue Nation, and his intensity on the floor is infectious.
