JaydenOosterwolde, a defender for Fenerbahce, is reportedly attracting interest from Ipswich Town, per Turkish publication Sports Digitale.
The Dutchman has been strongly linked to West Ham in recent weeks, while Brentford, Nottingham Forest, and Napoli are also rumored to be interested in signing him. Although AFC Bournemouth has been identified as a potential suitor, the Bournemouth Echo asserts that the Cherries are not keeping tabs on him.
Oosterwolde began his professional career at FC Twente of the Eredivisie, where he played 41 senior games between 2020 and 2022. After an initial loan spell in 2021/22, it led to a move to Serie B club Parma. However, he was unable to help them secure promotion to the Italian top flight before departing for Fenerbahce in January 2023 for an alleged €6 million cost. He started 20 of their 38 games and made seven cameo appearances for them last season, when they scored 99 points but ultimately lost the league championship.
The 23-year-old can play at left-back even though, at 6’2″, he is a natural left-sided center-back. Earlier this week, Town was also connected to Dominik Livakovic, his teammate.
Town will undoubtedly be considering a left-sided center-back this summer to give Cameron Burgess some competition. That has only been reinforced by reports, as published by the Telegraph, that they are interested in signing Jacob Greaves of Hull City.
Once again, he ticks the boxes. He’s tall, comfortable with the ball at his feet and a strong tackler. Not only does that suit the Premier League, but also a Kieran McKenna team. He’s surprisingly fast and, as mentioned, capable of playing at left-back, meaning that he could cover Leif Davis too.
His form saw him mentioned by Dutch fans as a candidate for the Netherlands national team, although he’s yet to earn a cap at any level for his country. Fenerbahce supporters have also been impressed, and new boss Jose Mourinho will probably be keen to have a look at him in pre-season.
If he is to move, Mourinho’s links with McKenna could put Ipswich top of the pile. A switch to Suffolk would probably be his best chance of regular game time, too.
As usual, it can be very difficult to confirm stories from overseas, and it’s crucial to exercise caution when a player is connected to multiple clubs. Nevertheless, it might mean that he’s available, and if the Blues are keen to get him, he seems like a solid fit.
