Official LIVE: Red Sox Reached ‘Advanced Conversations’ To Acquire $108 Million All-Star who appears 10 times” better than Crochet according to the prodigy present coach. See details…
So far this offseason, the Boston Red Sox have been searching the trade market.
With the acquisition of Garrett Crochet from the Chicago White Sox in exchange for a bundle of four elite prospects, Boston has already executed one historic trade. However, the Red Sox have attempted to acquire other starters in addition to Crochet.
Luis Castillo, a three-time All-Star with the Seattle Mariners, is another starter Boston has been strongly linked to. According to Alex Speier of the Boston Globe, the two parties even had “advanced conversations” that resulted in Castillo’s agent being approached over his no-trade clause.
“While (Jared Jones) for now seems far-fetched, the Sox had far more advanced conversations about Mariners righthander Luis Castillo at the Winter Meetings,” Speier explained. “According to sources, the discussions moved forward enough that the Mariners contacted Castillo’s agent to ask if the pitcher would be willing to waive his no-trade protection (something he has through the 2025 season as part of a five-year, $108 million deal that has three remaining seasons at roughly $72 million, as well player and team options for 2028).”
If the parties return to the negotiation table, Castillo would be a good addition to the Red Sox’s roster. He is only 32 years old, has been named to the All-Star team three times, and has a lifetime ERA of 3.56 in eight major league seasons.
In 2024, Castillo pitched 175 1/3 innings with a strikeout-to-walk ratio of 175 to 47 and an ERA of 3.64. His $108 million contract has three years left on it. Watch Seattle.
