Tonight in the Moody Center, Texas Women’s Basketball faced the Lamar Cardinals. Madison Booker, a sophomore forward with a chronic hamstring issue, would be out for the Longhorns. Vic Schaefer, coach of the women’s basketball team for the Texas Longhorns, stated that the injury is not serious. The Longhorns defeated the Cardinals 95-58 without Booker in the starting lineup. There were other positive developments for the women’s basketball program today as well.

Earlier today, the Longhorns declared that Aaliyah Crump had committed to the team. For Schaefer and the recruiting class he is assembling for 2025, there is yet another huge addition. Next season, the 6’1 combo guard will provide the guards some size. After this season, senior guard Rori Harmon will leave the Longhorns. But Crump’s basket-scoring prowess will take Harmon’s place in the starting lineup. These are the three key lessons learned from yesterday’s victory over the Cardinals.

Conclusions from the victory over Lamar by Texas women’s basketball: 3. experienced a few near-fatal injuries during the game. Tonight versus Lamar, there were a few near-misses due to injuries. Harmon bumped into one of the Cardinals because she failed to notice her setting a screen. She sat on the bench for a few minutes before rejoining the basketball game. In the second half, she walked off the court, favoring her right knee.

In the fourth quarter, Harmon came back and calmed the crowd. Aaliyah Moore, a senior forward, would not return until the second half, though, after suffering a non-contact injury while attempting to retrieve a rebound. 2. The rookie had a lot of playing time. Tonight’s game versus the Cardinals gave the three highly recruited freshman plenty of playing time. Jordan Lee, a rookie guard, finished with 12 points. Justice Carlton, a rookie forward, ended with 15 points. Bryanna Preston, a rookie guard, finished with nine points.

Tonight’s game against the Cardinals was crucial for the rookie to obtain playing time. Whether the Longhorns will sustain any more injuries this season is uncertain. Schaefer was convinced by the rookie that he could get them into the game and that the offensive would keep going.

Against the Cardinals tonight, senior guard Laila Phelia played her first minutes of the season. Schaefer used the transfer portal to recruit her as a guard from Michigan. Should Harmon sustain an injury and miss any time this season, Phelia will step in as the backup point guard.

Even though she only scored eight points in the game, it was encouraging to watch her gain experience and build relationships with her teammates. In their upcoming game, the Longhorns will travel to play DePaul University on Sunday night.

In Week 13, the Kentucky Wildcats might just defeat the Texas Longhorns. The Florida Gators were recently trounced by the Texas Longhorns, but the Horns’ matchup in a few weeks might present more issues than they initially anticipated.
