Wizard freeman: he won’t forgive you!“ We’re not where we want to be…Dame fans are so crazy’ we can’t stay where we are, Norvell’s Seminoles wept bitterly after bad encounter with Notre Dame” see full details…
The 52-3 loss at Notre Dame on Saturday was Florida State’s ninth game of the season, marking the program’s worst-ever defeat margin and setting a new low for the record of 10 games played by a preseason top ten team.
For just the fourth time this season, FSU scored on its first drive, but they were unable to produce any points, much less touchdowns, over the remainder of the game.
The Seminoles suffered yet another crushing defeat at Notre Dame Stadium when the Fighting Irish, who had a 7-3 lead at the end of the first quarter, scored 45 points in a row.
“ We had opportunities; I thought there were moments where we had space, but we weren’t able to finish plays,” head coach Mike Norvell said after the loss, the ninth game this season where FSU failed to score 20 points. “Obviously, for our football team, we all expect better. We understand that’s not acceptable.”
The Seminoles (1-9, 1-8 ACC) will get a bye week before facing off against Charleston Southern (1-9) — an FCS team — on November 23, with a kickoff time still be determined.
MIKE NORVELL: Disappointing performance, outcome—really all three phases got beat. They did a good job in their execution of their game plan, creating explosive plays, and we lacked them offensively.
We gave up too many TFLs. Third downs, once again, were a challenge for us. We had opportunities, and I thought there were moments with space, but we weren’t able to finish plays. Defensively, we gave up explosive plays.
Their quarterback did a good job extending plays, in my opinion. They were able to make some huge plays in the passing game, but we knew going in that he was a gifted runner who occasionally injured us with his legs.
On punt, it’s probably the worst performance we’ve had. A few things schematically allowed pressure, and we got beat in one-on-one situations. That’s been a unit that’s been a strength for us, but tonight was not good enough.
It hurt in all three phases—a really disappointing outcome. For our football team, we all expect better, and we all understand that’s not acceptable for what it needs to be and what it has been in the very recent past. We’ve got to get better and keep working.
