Just now: Kirk Herbstreit Reveals ‘Drive of the Year’ in College Football This Season….

ESPN college football analyst Kirk Herbstreit believes the “drive of the year” this season took place in one of the biggest matchups of the year in Week 8.

A game between two SEC juggernauts, Kirby Smart and the Georgia Bulldogs traveled to Austin to take on Steve Sarkisian and the Texas Longhorns in a top five matchup with SEC championship and College Football Playoff implications on the line.

Georgia, then ranked No. 5, jumped out to a comfortable 23-0 lead at the half in surprising fashion. Texas’ high-powered offense, led by star quarterback Quinn Ewers, was limited to just 38 yards of total offense in the first two quarters.

It seemed like the Bulldogs were in for an easy final 30 minutes in DKR-Texas Memorial Stadium.

But things took a turn in the second half. After Texas marched down the field for its first touchdown of the night, adding a 2-point conversion, Georgia’s lead fell to 23-8 with momentum swinging in favor of the Longhorns.

Adding to the hysteria, UGA star quarterback Carson Beck threw his third interception of the night on what would become an extremely controversial play. Texas was initially penalized for defensive pass interference before Longhorns fans peppered the field with objects in protest. After a lengthy discussion, officials reversed the call and set up another Texas score to make it 23-15

The Bulldogs were in danger of giving the Texas offense a chance to tie the game. Backed up to its own 11-yard line, Georgia converted on a 3rd-and-10 thanks to a 21-yard pass from Beck to receiver Arian Smith.

Then offensive coordinator Mike Bobo reached in his bag of tricks and called a flea-flicker that was completed for a 43-yard gain down to the Texas 25-yard line. UGA tailback Trevor Etienne ultimately went on to score his third touchdown of the game, sealing the Bulldogs’ 30-15 road win over the No. 1 team in the nation.

The Bulldogs (6-1, 4-1 SEC) moved to No. 2 in the AP Poll following the victory. Texas (6-1, 2-1 SEC) dropped to No. 5. Given the high level of play by both teams, there may be a rematch, or two, on the horizon before its all said and done.

Georgia is off this week while the Longhorns travel to Nashville to take on the No. 25 Vanderbilt Commodores (5-2, 2-1 SEC).
