Just now: Raiders Antonio Pierce hint at drastic quarterback change ahead of tricky match fixture against Browns” as he set to introduced last season hot gem” he could be absolutely perfect on a good day for pierce…
The Las Vegas Raiders are considering a change at quarterback for their upcoming Week 4 game against the Cleveland Browns.
Following a difficult loss in Week 3 to the Carolina Panthers, where the Raiders were unable to recover from a significant deficit, the team may turn to rookie Aidan O’Connell as a potential starter.
Head coach Antonio Pierce has not ruled out this possibility, expressing interest in seeing if O’Connell could “spark” the offense.
In Week 3, O’Connell came off the bench and performed solidly, completing 9 of 12 passes for 82 yards and a touchdown. Despite this, veteran quarterback Gardner Minshew, who started that game, has more experience with 37 career starts and might still be seen as the safer option for a team aiming for a playoff push.
The decision on who will start in Week 4 is expected to be made closer to game time. However, the Raiders are open to the idea of giving O’Connell a chance to lead the offense if they believe he offers a better opportunity to secure a win against the Browns.
Last year, QB Aidan O’Connell played relatively well as a rookie but Gardner Minshew was signed this offseason to create a competition. The two-year, $25 million contract Minshew signed seemed to give the veteran a leg up and he ended up winning the job
After getting blown out by the Carolina Panthers, which included O’Connell coming in in relief of Minshew, HC Antonio Pierce is mulling a change at quarterback:
Last year, O’Connell completed 62% of his passes for 2,218 yards with 12 touchdowns and seven interceptions. So far in three games in Las Vegas, Minshew has completed 74% of his passes for 747 yards with three touchdowns and three interceptions.
Minshew is playing on his fourth team since being drafted in the sixth round of the 2019 NFL draft. He’s started 40 games and played in 52 in that five-plus-year span so far.
