Will you be heading to this year’s Madness?
Big Blue Madness is one of the most anticipated events for Kentucky Wildcats basketball fans. Each year, it marks the official start of the basketball season, bringing excitement to the Big Blue Nation as they get their first glimpse of the men’s and women’s basketball teams. This year’s Big Blue Madness is set to be even more special with the introduction of new head coaches for both teams — Mark Pope, who takes over the men’s team, and Kenny Brooks, who will be leading the women’s team. With new leadership at the helm, the event promises a fresh start for Kentucky basketball, both on and off the court.
On Monday, Kentucky officially announced ticket information for this year’s edition of Big Blue Madness, presented by Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Bluegrass. For fans eager to attend, tickets will be distributed exclusively online via Ticketmaster starting at 5 PM ET on Friday, September 27th. As with past years, tickets are free, which allows more fans to be part of the excitement. However, this year, there are some changes to the ticket distribution process.
Due to ongoing renovations at Memorial Coliseum, there will not be any in-person ticket distributions, and the traditional campout — where fans would camp outside for days to secure their tickets — will not take place. This shift to an entirely online system ensures that fans can still access the event, but it may limit the experience for those who enjoyed the atmosphere of camping out with fellow Wildcats fans. The lack of a campout may be disappointing to some, as it had become a beloved tradition in the buildup to Big Blue Madness.
Additionally, while tickets are free, fans should be aware that online orders will carry a minimal service fee, and tickets will be limited to four per household. This limit is put in place to ensure that more fans can attend the event, given the high demand for tickets. UK Athletics has also stressed that due to this high demand, they cannot guarantee that every fan will secure a ticket. Any duplicate orders will be automatically canceled to prevent scalping or hoarding of tickets.
For Kentucky students, a limited number of tickets will be reserved, and further information regarding student ticket availability will be posted on UKStudentTix.com once it is finalized. This ensures that students — a vital part of the Wildcats’ passionate fan base — will have an opportunity to participate in the event and support their fellow students on the court.
Big Blue Madness itself will take place on October 11th at 7 PM ET in the historic Rupp Arena, which has been the home of Kentucky basketball for decades. The arena is sure to be filled with thousands of fans eager to see the debut of the 2024-2025 Kentucky Wildcats men’s and women’s basketball teams under their new leadership. It’s not just an introduction of the players and coaches, but a showcase of Kentucky’s rich basketball tradition, with flashy player entrances, skill exhibitions, and performances that are sure to thrill the crowd.
For fans unable to secure tickets or make the journey to Rupp Arena, the event is typically televised, allowing fans to watch from home and be part of the excitement. It’s an opportunity for the entire Big Blue Nation to come together and celebrate the beginning of what they hope will be a successful season for both basketball programs.
This year’s Big Blue Madness is more than just the annual kickoff to basketball season; it’s a chance to witness a new chapter in Kentucky basketball history with Mark Pope and Kenny Brooks leading the Wildcats. As the teams begin their journey under new direction, the fans’ energy and excitement will undoubtedly be felt throughout Rupp Arena. Whether attending in person or tuning in from afar, Big Blue Nation will surely make their presence known, ready to cheer their teams on to victory as they embark ona new season.
