Worst tragedy: Raiders Maxx Crosby has been brutally slapped” with terrible fined of $11 255 As two other team mate faces drastic measures” for changing NFL into a war zone in a fierce match…

Possibly due to the pent-up frustration from months of preparation or just trying to let go of the euphoria of the regular season beginning, things in the NFL tend to turn chippy during Week 1. Players from the Los Angeles Chargers and Las Vegas Raiders got into a brawl during the game, thus that was definitely the case.

During the fourth quarter, a fight broke out between Raiders safety Marcus Epps and Charger wide receiver Josh Palmer. This led to multiple players getting into the scrum.

Palmer and Epps begin to throw one another around in the endzone, leading to Raiders cornerback Jack Jones, defensive end Maxx Crosby, and defensive tackle Christian Wilkins also involving themselves. Palmer and Jones were ejected for the fight.

For involvement in the fight, Palmer was fined $11,255, Jones was fined $5,472, Crosby was fined $11,255, Epps was fined $11,817, and Wilkins was fined $11,255.

The NFL has been doing what it can to eliminate fighting from football, but it appears that might not be as easy as they hoped. The league issued a memo to teams in August that “unnecessary violence” would be dealt with in a more severe manner.

It was only today that the league fined several teams and several players. The league has chosen to impose heavy fines in the hopes that striking players’ wallets will help resolve the issue more quickly, as opposed to urging players not to fight and expecting they will.

The Chargers and Raiders faced off in Week 1, leading to a final score of 22-10 in favor of the Chargers. The score might have set things off, or simply because the teams are deep-seated divisional rivals. Either way, the players are now seeing the result of their wanting to throw fists at one another.

These Week 1 instances follow a multitude of training camp fights that included joint practices between two teams, and sometimes intrasquad fights like when Seahawks players went after one another.

Head coaches from the NFL like Mike Tomlin from the Pittsburgh Steelers stated that fights needed to be weeded out of competition. That appears to be easier said than done.

Chiefs Hit With Steep Fine by NFL Stemming From Week 1 Sideline Figh

Again, the NFL is not wasting time on their words not being taken seriously, and instead going after teams and players with fines. The biggest fine dished out today was $100,000 for the Chiefs after a sideline fight occurred with the Ravens.
