SO SAD: Steph Curry finally gets real on Klay Thompson joining the Dallas Mavericks…
When the Dallas Mavericks signed Klay Thompson in a six-team sign-and-trade, the team’s amazing offseason officially began. The signing of Thompson by Dallas to a three-year, $51 million contract was undoubtedly one of the league’s finest value summer acquisitions.
After a humiliating shooting display in the NBA Finals, Dallas desperately needed a shooter, and they added one of the greatest catch-and-shoot players of all time in Thompson.
Thompson is going to be the starting small forward for the Mavs to start the season, and although all of Dallas is ecstatic that Thompson is a Maverick now, the same can’t be said about how his former Golden State Warriors teammate Stephen Curry feels.
Curry was hilariously disgusted at Thompson hanging out with Lively II
Curry, Thompson, and Dereck Lively II were all spotted at the New York Liberty game on Sunday, and Curry’s reaction to Thompson hanging out with Lively II was hilarious.
Curry and Thompson will obviously be known as one of the top duos the league has ever seen due to their unreal 3-point shooting, chemistry, and four NBA Finals wins. Curry’s reaction to the two new teammates hanging out was hilarious, but he is still goin
According to Curry, Thompson’s departure from the Golden State Warriors “will be a ‘challenge’ for his squad,” (per People’s Natasha Dye interview).
By no means is he disparaging Thompson’s leaving, but he is undoubtedly still eager to get to work. With Thompson joining the Mavs, Curry will no longer have his “splash brother” to play with him on the court. This could be one of the most significant offseason acquisitions made by any Western Conference team.
We’ve never seen Luka Doncic play with a shooter like Klay Thompson, and he is going to be getting more open looks than he ever has. While Dallas differs from Golden State in the way that they run their offense, Thompson is still going to have the chance to thrive.
It will benefit his game that they won’t rely as much on him and run as many off-ball actions. Thompson will be able to focus on draining open threes off the catch because he won’t have to move around as much on offense.
Assistant coach Jared Dudley stated that Dallas will continue to utilize him in “creative” ways, and that Thompson will be the Mavs’ third scorer going forward.
It’s going to take fans a while to get used to Curry and Thompson not sharing the floor anymore, but the Doncic-Thompson duo has the chance to be an elite one as well.
Doncic and Kyrie Irving are going to take a weight off Thompson’s shoulders offensively, and this Mavs offense has the opportunity to be the best 3-point shooting team in the NBA this season.
