A security breach during Green Day’s concert at Comerica Park in Detroit on Wednesday forced them to leave the stage mid-song.

Around 20 minutes into their performance at 8:50 p.m., the legendary band—which consisted of Tre Cool, Mike Dirnt, and Billie Joe Armstrong—was playing Longview when a stagehand hurried out and grabbed Dirnt, forcing him off stage. Video of the incident shows Billie Joe, 52, watching Dirnt, 52, leave the stage before he stops singing, drops his instrument, and runs off the stage. The bewildered 35,000-strong crowd continued to sing along as the stadium’s lights came on, with a message flashing on screen that said, “Show Pause. Please standby for details.” Later, Detroit Police Cpl. Dan Donakowski informed Detroit News that Green Day was taken off stage because someone had flown a drone into Comerica Park.

Shortly after that, they went back on stage to perform. DPD spotted this individual outside of Comerica Park. He is being arrested awaiting additional investigation.’

The band was gone for around 10 minutes before resuming the show,

Billie Joe said on his return to the stage: ‘How you guys doing? Everybody OK?’ before resuming Longview in the same spot before the band’s exit.

After playing Welcome To Paradise Armstrong said: ‘There ain’t no motherf****r that’s gonna stop us, I’ll tell you that.’

After the closing song – Good Riddance (Time of Your Life) – Armstrong quipped: ‘A night we’re all gonna remember.’

The band’s official X account later posted: ‘Detroit! Sorry for the delay in the show tonight, Stadium security had us clear the stage while they dealt with a potential safety issue.

‘DPD quickly resolved the situation, and we were able to continue. Thanks for understanding.’

The band are currently on their Saviors Tour which celebrates the 30th anniversary of debut album Dookie and the 20th anniversary of American Idiot
