MOCKSVILLE — A search warrant reveals that authorities discovered a shell casing and a handgun holster in a green Chevrolet Tahoe SUV that John Franklin Barrow Jr., 42, had driven earlier in Mocksville and eastern Davie County. The man was armed with a handgun when they arrested him on August 1 following the shooting of a truck driver on Interstate 40 in Davie County, according to court records.

Barrow is accused with attempted first-degree murder and shooting a pistol into an occupied vehicle, causing serious bodily injury, according to his arrest warrant. Barrow is suspected to trying to kill Prince Obambo-Boboya as Obambo-Boboya was driving a Unifi Global tractor-trailer on I-40, according to the warrant and the Davie County Sheriff’s Office.

Obambo-Boboya was shot in his face and left shoulder and was taken to Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center for treatment.

Barrow drove through Mocksville, firing a handgun as he drove, the sheriff’s office said. Barrow fired several bullets on I-40 East near the U.S. 601 exit, striking Obambo-Boboya, the sheriff’s office said.

After investigators searched Barrow’s vehicle, they found more shell casings and some ammunition, Sheriff J.D. Hartman said Thursday.

Cindy Ellis of Mocksville, Barrow’s attorney, couldn’t be reached for comment about the case.

Deputies also found shell casings in Mocksville along Yadkinville Road, the sheriff’s office said. Investigators haven’t found any people, vehicles or buildings that were struck by the gunfire in Mocksville.

The incident started when Davie County sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of gunfire between 796 Valley Road and 977 Yadkinville Road about 2:30 p.m. Aug. 1.

The sheriff’s office then received a report of a traffic crash on I-40 East near Bermuda Run. Investigators learned that a green Chevrolet SUV was involved in the wreck.

Obambo-Boboya’s Freightliner truck traveled off the highway and through the grassy area that runs parallel to I-40, the search warrant said. The truck crashed into the trees near the grassy area.

The SUV was later found at the Outback Steakhouse off Hanes Mall Boulevard in Winston-Salem.

Winston-Salem police arrested Barrow, the warrant said. Davie County sheriff’s deputies then arrived and took Barrow into custody.

According to the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office, Barrow was being held on unrelated charges on Thursday in the Forsyth County Jail. He is expected to appear in Davie District Court on September 19.
