BREAKING: Ipswich Town faces serious blow” as £6million summited bid has been rejected” in a latest transfer shutdown…

The East Anglian Daily Times stated that Rovers are said to have wanted closer to £20 million, while the Premier League newcomers began their offer at about £6 million. There are reports circulating that indicate the two sides are nearing a final agreement; yet, it remains unclear if a compromise can be reached. Former England international and pundit Carlton Palmer has shared his thoughts on the ongoing drama.

According to the former Sheffield Wednesday player, if Ipswich wants to have any chance of luring Smzodics to Portman Road, they will need to increase their offer. Palmer, in an exclusive interview with Football League World, stated: “Blackburn Rovers has turned down three proposals from Suffolk Town for Republic of Ireland attacker Sammie Szmodics.

The latest bid, believed to be around £6million has been rejected. Ipswich remain in talks with Blackburn Rovers over last season’s Championship top scorer. An agreement is believed to be getting closer.

“The 28-year-old has been open about his desire to play in the Premier League after scoring 33 goals in 2023/24, including 27 in the league.

“He signed a deal until 2026, so Blackburn are in a strong position.

“Galatasaray have also been interested in the former Peterborough and Bristol City forward.

“Ipswich are preparing for their first season in the Premier League. They’ve already signed Liam Delap for £20million. They’ve brought in Omari Hutchinson, Ben Johnson, Jacob Greaves. But they missed out on Jaden Philogene who rejoined Aston Villa.

“So, they’re

So, they’re desperate to bring in somebody like Sammie Szmodics. But, you know, at 28 I’m sure Blackburn will sell.

“But they’ve got to get the money in. For a striker, you know, at that level, you’re still going to pay big money and, you know, you look at Blackburn, how close Blackburn were to getting relegated last season, 27 league goals is a lot to replace.

So, they must have a figure for him. I would think the figure’s going to be in excess of £10m to get him out, plus add-ons. This could help John Eustace, if he’s given the money to rebuild to help the club not be in the position they were in last season.”

Blackburn need to make Szmodics sale worth their while

As Palmer mentions, Rovers were too close to relegation for comfort last season, finishing just three points above the relegation places.

With 27 goals, Szmodics was by far the star of the show at Ewood Park. The club’s next-best scorer only scored five goals. The Republic of Ireland international’s haul in a struggling team is impressive, but given the narrow margins in the league table, it also raises questions about what would have likely happened to the Lancashire side in his absence.

At 28 years old, Szmodics may never get a shot at the Premier League again and, based on their current position, Blackburn shouldn’t deny him that chance, but they’ve got to make sure the deal works for them.

Relegation likely would have beckoned if it hadn’t been for the forward’s heroics. Being so heavily reliant on one player for goals won’t make him easy to replace, so they need to get as much as they can for him to have any chance at funding replacements.

Szmodics future being away from Ewood Park seems certain, but Blackburn must still try and make the most of the situation.
