Adrian Newey gives ‘really special’ verdict after driving title-winning Ferrari at Goodwood

Once Adrian Newey took the wheel of his old buddy Niki Lauda’s Ferrari 312T at Goodwood, he declared it to be “really special.” Even five years after his passing, the 312 is still regarded as one of the most iconic cars in the history of Formula One.

Lauda used it to win his World Championship and create one of the largest gaps between first and second place in the competition’s history. Driving Niki’s former vehicle—his championship-winning vehicle—is truly an incredible experience, according to Newey.

“Since I knew Niki fairly well, it’s really special to be here, sitting in the same seat, and just trying to imagine what he must have been going through and how he prepared himself before the start.”
