Luka Doncic was unsuccessful in leading his native Slovenia to the 2024 Paris Olympics, less than a month after he failed to lead the Dallas Mavericks to their second NBA championship.
The two NBA superstars faced off for the first time while representing their respective senior national teams when Doncic and Slovenia lost to Giannis Antetokounmpo and Greece in the semifinals of the Olympic qualifying tournament in Piraeus, Greece.
Antetokounmpo, who won the NBA championship in 2021 with the Milwaukee Bucks and was named a two-time MVP, qualified for his debut Olympics. Even though Doncic won’t be in Paris, a number of the NBA’s other talented foreign players will be there for the Summer Games in an attempt to upset the much fancied US men’s national team.
