Elite: The man has finally been named” London knight has officially make a wise choice” Hockey report.

The OHL’s London Knights picked Jesse Nurmi, a prospect for the New York Islanders, 58th overall in the 2024 CHL Import Draft on Wednesday.

The CHL Import Draft gives Canadian junior teams the opportunity to select players who are not from North America.

The expectation was that the Finland native, Nurmi, would play with the Bridgeport Islanders this coming season. Nurmi, who is 19 years old, can still play in the CHL, and it might be good for his development to play one junior season before turning pro and joining the Islanders.

Isaiah George, a defensive prospect for the Islanders who is turning pro this season, won the Memorial Cup with London this past season.

Nurmi had four goals and four assists for eight points in six games with Finland’s U-20 KooKoo team before two assists in 19 games with the big club.

The Islanders drafted Nurmi in the fourth round (No. 113) of the 2023 NHL Draft, and on June 12 they signed him to a three-year entry-level deal. Despite this, it does mean that Nurmi may take longer to make it to the NHL.

Bridgeport currently has four left-wingers signed for 2024-25, including Nurmi.

They are likely to have Ruslan Iskhakov as well—if he reports—since the Islanders don’t currently have room on their roster, personnel-wise or financially.
