Braves bringing 23 to spring training as non-roster invitees…

The 23 non-roster invitees for spring training have been made public by the Atlanta Braves.

In a few weeks, Atlanta’s 40-man roster in North Port will get eight more pitchers, four catchers, eight infielders, and three more outfielders.

For pitchers, the headliners are two top-thirty prospects in RHP Hurston Waldrep, Atlanta’s first round pick in the 2023 MLB Draft out of the University of Florida, as well as LHP Hayden Harris, a reliever.

Waldrep and Harris are both in Braves Today’s Top 31 prospects entering the 2024 season, with Waldrep at #1 and Harris at #22.

Four catchers are making the trek to North Port, including #11 prospect Drake Baldwin.

For infielders, #7 prospect Ignacio Alvarez joins a group of major league veterans, with Luke Williams, Leury Garcia, David Fletcher, and Andrew Velasquez among the players coming for major league spring training.

Curiously, the team has invited only three outfielders, indicating that there may be more roster moves made in this department.

Here’s the full list of invitees:

Pitchers (8): LH Ben Bowden, RH Tommy Doyle, RH Ken Giles, RH Grant Holmes, LH Hayden Harris, RH Hurston Waldrep, RH Jake Walsh, RH Taylor Widener.

Catchers (4): Drake Baldwin, Tyler Tolve, Chadwick Tromp, Sebastián Rivero

Infielders (8): Ignacio Alvarez, Phillip Evans, David Fletcher, Leury García, Alejo López, Andrew Velazquez, Luke Waddell, Luke Williams

Outfielders (3): Luis Liberato, Jordan Luplow, Eli White

Pitchers and catchers are expected to report on February 15th, with the full squads due in to CoolToday Park in North Port on February 20th.

The spring training schedule opens with a matchup against the Tampa Bay Rays on February 24th.
